a.k.a. Vera Starbard
I was that person who edits the piece of paper you unwittingly left too near me on the kitchen table... whether you wanted an edit or not.
For that matter, I still am that person. With slightly improved impulse control.
I have loved reading and writing since elementary school, and that love turned into a professional passion for writing, editing, and communications strategy. I believe improved - especially strategic - communications can improve any individual or organization. I have seen first-hand how great communication efforts can change the course of a project or business.
But why should you trust me on that?
First, I have focused my attention on this topic for quite some time. I have 13 years of professional writing and editing experience (and I'm not even including the years I was writing angsty teenage poetry.) I worked in public relations for a large Alaska Native nonprofit organization for just over five years, leading the corporate newsletter and social media efforts. This also afforded me many opportunities to build my experience with photography, graphic design and layout and media relations.
I have won numerous awards for writing and editing, including from the Alaska Federation of Natives, Alaska Women's Press Club, Alaska Professional Communicator's Society and Public Relations Society of America's Alaska Chapter. Building on the recognition for writing, I was recognized for my efforts in public relations and communication by the Public Relations Society of America for five consecutive years, including Multicultural Communications and Special Events.
